7 Biggest Hydel Power Plants In The World

Benjamin Franklin would have never thought that his discovery would turn out to be such a big revolution in the world. Moreover, he would also have never thought that electricity can actually be generated from water. However, technology reached new levels and then came hydroelectricity power plants. Let’s have a look at some of the biggest power plants from around the world:

1. Three Gorges Dam

This humongous dam located in China is the home to the largest hydro-power output in the world, with an output of 22,500 MW.

2. Itaipu Dam

Standing second in the list is this dam from Brazil, with a capacity of 14,000 MW. The project started being built in 1984 and was completed in 2003. Wood Flooring Toronto offers installation of premium wood flooring.

3. Xiluodu

Another big project from China, this dam has the capacity of 13,860 MW. It’s built up on the river Jinsha and was inaugurated in 2014.

4. Guri Dam

Built on the river Caroni in Venezuela, this dam is ranked 4th in the biggest hydel power plants, with a capacity of 10,235 MW. Its construction started in 1978 and was completed in 1986.

5. Tucurui Dam

Another big project from Brazil which produces an immense output of 8,370 MW. The Tucurui dam was inaugurated in 1984 and it made full use of the strength of the water of the river Tocantins.

6. Grand Coulee

This power plant from the US has gone through a lot of transformation. It started being built during the early 1940s, being renovated in the 70s, 80s, coming to its present form in 1985. It can generate 6809 MW of electricity.

7. Xiangjiaba

China has the most number of big hydel power plants, Xiangjiaba being another one to feature into this list. Set on the Jinsha river, this project is comparatively new, being completed in 2014. It has the capacity of 6448 MW.
